My journey as a craftsman began with swords. As a child, I would make swords out of whatever material I could use; cardboard, Lego bricks… After my first time watching the Lord of the Rings films, I decided to try carving a sword out of wood to resemble those pictured in the movies. I bought my first tool (a sort of rasp/chisel combination) and began chipping away at a pine 2x6. My first creations were quite rough and crude, but over time, my tool collection and skills grew, and my love for making whatever those would allow.

In 2024, I left my previous occupation to pursue becoming a full-time craftsman. However, I was unable to find any local places that needed the skills I had to offer, or could teach me how to hone them, so I opened my own shop. Currently, my main workspace is my parents garage, but the dream is to someday have my own shop building. Because I am an orthodox Christian, a student of medieval history, and a keen J.R.R. Tolkien enthusiast, most of my work is related to these categories.

Professor Tolkien writes in the epilogue of his essay, On Faerie Stories; “Probably every writer making a secondary world, a fantasy, every sub-creator, wishes in some measure to be a real maker, or hopes that he is drawing on reality: hopes that the peculiar quality of this secondary world (if not all the details) are derived from Reality, or are flowing into it.”

In an age when art, ornamentation, and architecture is often just a mix of abstract shapes and chaotic colours, my desire is to create such things that have Reality, Beauty, and Truth engrained in their very construction. That may be through making articles such as the cross, which is one of the oldest and deepest symbols in history, or through incorporating designs which remind us of cherished and grand stories, that point us towards honour and nobility.
